This week has been busy with art, hockey, Christmas tree decorating and maths !
During our art inquiry this term we investigated the artist Raewyn Harris. We discovered the koru (Māori word for “loop”) is a spiral shape based on the unfurling silver fern frond of the ponga plant. Koru symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattoos. We also found out that the very young fern frond can be eaten.
Next we played hockey – critiquing and refining our skills twice this week with sessions on Monday and Thursday.
We made Christmas tree decorations, some of these ended up on the Christmas tree that is now sitting outside Subway.
In our measurement inquiry we had to learn about how to measure liquid or temperature. From this we created a lesson plan where we could teach the other students in our class. We learnt about what information is important to use and how important it is to target our audience. One group was lucky enough to go into Room Four on Friday and teach them what they had learned.
