Pukeoware School was built in 1877, and has served children across the wider Waiuku community for 140-years. It is a rural school situated in attractive and well-developed grounds on Baldhill Road, Waiuku. It is a full primary school catering for boys and girls in Years 1 to 8. Facilities include eight classrooms as well as an Ako Timatanga (Beginning Learners) hub. We also have a library, an office, a medical room, a staff room and have use of the neighbouring Pukeoware Hall. All our classrooms serve as ICT suites as full use is made of our ICT resources.
Our school is situated in picturesque, rural surroundings. We have our own playing field that is used for sports, outside activities, Calf Club, gala and community events. Our grounds are also home to two playground areas and a large vegetable garden. The location is ideal for environmental studies, and provides great opportunities to demonstrate our zero waste principles of reducing, helping, reusing, recycling, composting, respecting, renewing, up-cycling and worm farming.
The school has strong links with the community, has an active PTA and Board of Trustees, and receives excellent support from the local community for our school events.
We aim to provide teaching and learning that is stimulating, challenging and tailored to the needs of each individual child. We want our pupils to be enquiring learners who are able to pursue their interests, while receiving a high standard of education. To achieve this, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom. Further, close links with secondary schools in the area, including Waiuku College, enable us to prepare pupils for a smooth transition to secondary education.
